Where I'm From...........Waterloo, Iowa.

Coming from a small town you don't expect to see crime on the level that you see in Waterloo, Iowa. Below is several articles within a weeks time that makes Waterloo look more like "little New York" with crimes ranging from homicide to cocaine trafficking. I feel for my city and hope one day that I can bring some positive light back to my City's tarnished image. -Codebluu

Homicide

WATERLOO, Iowa - Police continue to investigate an early Sunday morning shooting that left a Waterloo man dead.
Officers were called to a disturbance in the parking lot of a Broadway Liquor, 821 Broadway St., shortly after 2 a.m., said Lt. Michael McNamee of the Waterloo Police Department.
Neighbor Liz Hess said she was awakened by gunfire and then heard people yelling.
"I heard four, maybe five, gunshots," Hess said. She called police.
After officers arrived, Rodricus Keith Jones, 23, was discovered with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, McNamee said.
Jones was on the grassy strip between the street and the sidewalk in front of 912 Broadway St., which is across the street and about half a block down from the liquor store.
Jones died at the scene, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
McNamee said Sunday afternoon that it appeared Jones was shot where he was found, and it wasn't clear if the parking lot disturbance and the shooting were related.
Jones is originally from Tennessee and recently moved to Waterloo, police said.
Investigators closed off a two-block stretch of Broadway Street to traffic until Sunday afternoon. They searched the liquor store parking lot and the yards of 908 and 912 Broadway, but it wasn't clear if those homes had any connection to the death.
Neighbors said they have noticed an uptick in late-night activity in the area since a new bar opened up.
"This used to be a very nice quiet neighborhood," said Hess, who has lived in the area for more than 20 years.
She noted the street now boasts an assortment of bars and liquor stores in close proximity to each other.
"This is getting ridiculous," she said.
Another neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said people tend to gather in the liquor store parking lot around closing time on the weekends.
They park and listen to music, and it usually doesn't take long until residents complain, and police tell the crowds to move along, he said.

MUGGINGS

WATERLOO - A woman was stabbed during an early Sunday mugging near the downtown area.
Details weren't available, but police said the woman was in the 400 block of Sycamore Street at about 12:50 a.m. when the attacker stabbed her in the back. The robber then fled with her purse.
She was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The assailant is described as a black male who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
The woman wasn't identified.

COCAINE COWBOYS

WATERLOO - Narcotics investigators arrested a Missouri man after he allegedly sold about 4 kilograms of cocaine.
Lucio Andazalo-Fimbres, 39, of Milan, was arrested Wednesday on West 12th Street for delivery of cocaine. He was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail, and bond was set at $100,000.
According to court records, the case was an investigation involving the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force and the Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement.
While conducting surveillance, drug agents watched Andazalo sell 4 kilograms of powder cocaine - about 8.8 pounds, records state. He was to deliver money from the sale to a person in Colorado, court records state.

HOME INVASIONS

WATERLOO - Residents fought off robbers who tried to enter their home Saturday night.
According to police, the assailants knocked on the door of 239 Cottage Grove Ave. at about 10:30 p.m. and forced their way inside.
The intruders fled after a struggle, police said. It wasn't clear if the attackers were armed or if they were able to take anything before retreating.
Residents at the home include Michael Devine, 43, and Arvilla Devine, 76, according to police.
No arrests have been made, and the case remains under investigation.
